Introduction

Whatsapp

Organisational communication is important for the companies to enhance internal interactions, share necessary information and shared vision with the employees and lead the workers to wards achieving the future success (Chou and Budenz, 2020). The study is about enhancing workplace communication in order to manage the workers after post COVID era, where the workers are asked to join the company twice a week by ensuring safety and security. The country UK is slowly returning to normal after nearly two years of lockdown. The employees in many different sectors have become accustomed to working remotely and they are reluctant to come back into the office. The IT Company Brit-tech is satisfied for its employees to continue working from home efficient where their overall productivity is being maximised in past days. However, the workers are requested to come into the office two days per week. The company believes that, whilst productivity is high when employees are working from home, but it is also important to maintain some face-to-face communication in order to mitigate internal barriers and enhance performance of the team as a whole. There are several barriers for which the employees are not willing to join office and this study provides a scope to propose some solutions through which Brit Tech can manage the employees by maximising communication and developing trust.

Organisational communication

Organizational communication refers to a broad field that encompasses all the forms of communication, which allow the organisations such as companies, government agencies, and non-profits to grow, function, connect with stakeholders, and contribute to society. For running the organisations successfully, it is important to develop strong corporate bonding with all the stakeholders which includes employees, organisational staff, CEO and managers, suppliers and distributors, government, NGOs in the society and customers. Hence, organisational communication is mandatory to be improved in order to engage the stakeholders and develop good practice to the company successful and create values for all the people engaged with the firm (Chou and Budenz, 2020). There are different ways of communication through which the organisational representatives can communicate with others and share adequate information and data in order to lead them towards achieving the future success. Team meetings are important in the workplace in order to engage the workers and discuss the topic for better understanding. It empowers the individuals in the workplace and encourages each staff member to share their opinion in front of others (Gesualdo et al., 2021).

Team meeting is hereby essential to clear doubts of the employees and guide them efficiently by sharing important information and organisational practice. Arranging internal training and developmental programs is another effective way to enhance internal communication where the employees can get the opportunity to develop their personal and professional skill and improve their understanding to perform better (Broniatowski, Dredze and Ayers, 2021). Formal communication by maintaining official notice board in the workplace, sending personalise email to the workers and using employee portal in the organisational website are effective for sharing knowledge and information to maximise productivity. On the other hand, there is informal communication where the representatives try to share information and data with others through verbal communication, eye contact and group discussion. In this regard, apart from email and employee portal management, the organisational management team enhance face to face interaction in order to create good bonding in the workplace and improve trust and loyalty among the staff (Salmon et al., 2021). The telephonic conversation is another crucial way to enhance internal communication, where one can interact with the senior team members an clear their doubts.

In this context, technology is playing an important role in improving interactions among the people, and in this regard the organisations in the recent years try to implement Information and Communication Technology or ICT which is considered as the successful technology for maximising internal and external communication. It is mainly an integrated computerised system with telephones, LAN Wi-Fi, Electronic textbooks, instructional software, email, chat, and distance learning programs that maximise organisational communication (Schoch-Spana et al., 2021). Hereby, the business communication can be enhanced in such ways where the organisational executives can manage the workers and share all the necessary information with them for better practice and maximising the overall productivity of the firm (Paul, Steptoe and Fancourt, 2021). In this context, Brit-tech as a technologically advanced IT company focuses on innovative strategies to manage the employee in such pandemic era. Enhancing communication at Brit-tech is mandatory in order to engage the staff, sharing information about the workplace changes and improves understanding about the new workplace practice and safety measures that are taken in the workplace (Bloomfield et al., 2021). The verbal and non-verbal communication are necessary to be maximised in the workplace so that the organisational managers can interact with the workers and clear their doubts about joining the company twice a week safely after getting vaccination and maintaining safety measure by wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, wearing gloves and using sanitizer time to time.

Evaluating the barriers of communication which made employees unwilling to return to the office

There are several barriers for which the employees are not willing to return to office which includes, physical barriers, emotional, interpersonal, perpetual and organisational structural barriers. There is lack of trust and loyalty among the workers, which further raise doubts and confusion among the staff about the ways of handling the employees after such post COVID period (Jin et al., 2021). The physical barrier is there, where the employees are reluctant to get public transportation and travel at peak time due to other of COVID 19, where they feel fear to getting affected after engaging with others during travel. On the other hand, emotional barriers are also there, where the employees prefer to work remotely and utilise own workstation for working efficiently and as per their convenience (Petersen et al., 2021). They feel more productive during work from home facilities and they themselves try to manage the routine of working efficiently.

Perpetual barriers are related to the fact that, the employees are chosen to not vaccinate and they are feeling discriminated in the workplace from those who are already vaccinated. Some of the people of the UK are not interested about getting their vaccines due to lack of awareness and having fear of vaccines. They feel that, the worker who are already vaccinate will not be comfortable to work with those who did not take their vaccines. Hence, it is difficult for the management team at Brit Tech to handle the workers efficiently under safety measures. On the other hand, the interpersonal barriers are also serious, where the employees feel that they have lost their interpersonal skill to engage with other colleagues and communicate with the senior team members after a long period of lock down and remote working practice (Rzymski et al., 2021). Organisational structural barriers further raise confusion among the employees about joining the office twice week where they are worried about the lack of ventilation and social distancing measures at the workplace. The workers are also unsure about the safety and security concerned in the workplace for which there is reluctant among the staff to join the office.

Outline Brit-tech strategies to overcome these barriers

The major strategy of Brit tech is to enhance communication among the employees and create values for them by taking safety measures at the workplace. The company should share all the necessary information by sending personalise email and arraigning general meeting through Skype and Zoom meeting application. These are important for maximising communication, where the employee can get adequate information about the safety measures in the workplace. the company must share the information including the vaccines are safe and it is mandatory to boosting immunity power and stop spreading the life-threatening virus, as well as the information regarding free vaccination, safety measure including wearing masks, gloves and shoes as well as using sanitizer will provide a scope to develop corporate bonding and improve trust among the workers of Brit Tech. On the other hand, the company update the employee portal time to time about joining the office twice a week where the employee’s names will be revealed time to time to work alternative days so that social distancing can be manage well. The company must arrange vaccination campaign in the workplace, in order to ensure 100% employees vaccination. The free vaccination campaign along with the involvement of the NGOs and health care workers from NHS are effective for Brit Tech to develop trust and loyalty among the staff where the workers are participating efficiently to get their vaccines in the company premises which will be totally safe. Hence, continuous communication through telephonic conversation, email services and utilising ICT will provide a scope to the managers of Brit tech to manage the employees for working twice a week under safety measures.
