Navigating Global Markets In Rice And Milk Wholesale

Introduction

Our group is a Transnational Corporation (TNC), which can be described as Elite. TNCs are global in terms of their operation. As such, they are impacted immensely by processes of globalization that allow them to engage in cross-border capitalization, production, participation in markets, business dissertation help, and ownership and administration of assets.

The TNC represented here is involved in global wholesale business of rice and milk.

Statistics to back up the group’s position on the issue

Haiti is a poor country, with a population of 10.123 million people (Global Sherpa, 2018). In 2011, its UN Human Development Index was at 0.454, which placed it 158 in the world (Global Sherpa, 2018).

Haiti is rich in environmental and cultural resources but economically very backward, with a GDP at just over $11.9 billion in 2011 (Global Sherpa, 2018). This placed the per capita GDP of Haiti at merely $1,179 (at Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) (Global Sherpa, 2018).

Of more concern is the significant proportion of Haitian population estimated to live below poverty line at 80 percent of the total population (Global Sherpa, 2018). It may be reasonably argued that one of the reasons for such poverty is the lack of employment in Haiti. It is here that the group represented in this paper can be of use.

The TNCs are placed at a position to provide industry and employment to a significant population of people in Haiti. This may be because TNCs are geocentric business corporations, driven by the goal of maximization of global profits (Ngomba-Roth, 2007).

TNCs play an impactful role in developing and underdeveloped countries and can influence domestic political system and business model and in this way they can propel changes within nations and the global marketplace (Kegley, 2008).

Actions we want the government to take to address the issues in the background guidance

The actions that we are looking to influence are related to the privatization of the government telecom company, TELECO. We are willing to pay up to 10 million dollars to purchase TELECO. However, we need the government to fire all its employees from the company before selling the company to us.

We are also looking to do business in a market that is stable and does not involve too much volatility based on political, legislative or other external environmental factors.

How the position of other groups impacts our position

Other groups that impacts our position are the government, the employees of the TELECO and the stakeholders in the consumer society, who are impacted by the changes in the free market. The government can help us to become market leaders by making laws that are beneficial to us, including taxation laws. The consumers are an essential part of the market in which we want to sell our products. The employees are impacted by us and also impact us because in case they create conflict due to their ouster, this will impact our position in the market.

How our group is benefitting from globalization and increased interdependence

TNCs are benefitted by processes of globalisation as these processes create the transport and communication mechanisms that facilitate the movement of processes and goods in transnational contexts (Oatley, 2015). In this age of globalisation, there is increased economic interdependence which leads to movement of goods, services, technology and capital (Oatley, 2015).
