From Care Assistant to Future Nurse: A Story of Commitment and Growth

Introduction

My interest in becoming an adult nurse emanates from the innate need in me to get maximum job satisfaction in a healthcare field that is rewarding. I am also motivated to provide different patients I interact with, with practical and emotional support. I have been driven to apply for this degree by the need to offer support and bring compassion to diverse societies of people. One persistent goal for me throughout my lifetime has been giving back to the community, and I have also benefited immensely from this, a perfect example being the opportunity to do the course I am currently pursuing. Nurses play an instrumental role as bridges between patients and different medical concepts, which are beyond the comprehension of the patients. Eventually after the completion of my studies, I believe that my qualities will make me an increasingly competent and proficient member of the nursing profession.

While English is not my first language, I have been committed and to and have prioritized learning it, to ensure I become a more effective communicator. I speak fluent Persian and Urdu, and believe that this comes as an advantage due to the presence of a large Persian and Urdu community in the UK. During my different patient interactions, I have been able to watch, listen, observe and take part in multiple patient needs assessment. This has provided a rather invaluable insight on the necessary skills required of professional nurses, and these include, communication skills, patients, and commitment to quality care. I have become more capable of handling challenging behaviors from patients, while at the same time, staying professional, ensuring the maximum satisfaction of the patients.

I have an awareness of the challenging nature of the nursing field and that extensive commitment and hard work are necessary. I however strongly believe that the role is quite rewarding and I would gain a high sense of achievement that would effectively outweigh the encountered challenges. I currently work as a care assistant and my roles involve looking after patients with different needs, ensuring the improvement of their life quality, and helping them live independent lives. The treatment accorded to a patient remains ingrained in their minds for years on end, and my aspirations are to provide the best care ever. I possess rather genuine interest in working in places where I feel I make a difference in other people’s lives and there are opportunities of comforting vulnerable people.

I have confidence that I have what it takes to excel in the course. The skills that I possess that will come in handy throughout the course include, being a team workers, good communication and excellent interactional skills. These will place me in a better position to interact better with others and additionally carry out my work related roles better. In addition, I’m a fast learner, capable of effectively managing tasks and independently completing tasks. My listening and note taking skills are also superb.

I am passionate about equality and diversity from my own experience and ensuring that others are treated fairly, and their needs are met equally. I recognise and embrace the 6cs of nursing, and I’m a caring and compassionate individual. Additionally, I have experience in different assessment methods including coursework, exams, group work and presentation. I commit to stay dedicated to my studies, correctly planning my work to ensure that all the deadlines and submission dates throughout the course are met. My extensive studying of the nursing course has made me understand that I will be required to dedicate a lot of time to ensure the completion of all relevant models and ensure that I pass with the highest achievable grades. I also understand that the hard work starts on this course to become a competent and professional nurse. I commit to put in the neccessary work and stay committed to ensure success.
