INTRODUCTION

Portfolio for personal skill and development is beneficial for the individuals, to review own knowledge and abilities to perform in the professional career as well as identify further requirements of improving skills and capabilities to achieve future professional success (Brundiers, and Wiek, 2017; Arnold and Boggs, 2019). Through the study, it is possible for the individual, to review the graduate and transferable skill which is necessary for him or her to perform better in the professional career. Through developing the transferrable skill and utilising the graduate skill, it is possible for the individual to develop own capabilities to perform in the organisation as well as maximise own job roles and responsibilities proficiently. in addition to this, the study focuses on discussing the interpersonal skill and communication skill as well as analysing the role of lifelong learning and personal development and developing honesty, integrity and competent professional practice which are necessary to being a professional and fulfil own roles and responsibilities in the organisation positively so that he or she can contribute efficiently with his r her full potential to achieve the organisational aims and objectives. The portfolio also provides a scope to discuss and evaluate own experience and knowledge including the graduate and transferrable skill in order to perform better in the professional field and identify the limitations. This in turn followed by proper development plan that will provide a scope to the individual to develop own skill and abilities to perform proficiently.

Reflecting interpersonal skill and communication skill

Interpersonal skill and communication skill, both are necessary for the individual to improve own capabilities and perform better with proper cooperation with others at the workplace. In this context, both the verbal and non-verbal communication are necessary for improving communication in the organisational context, where all the people can communicate with each other for sharing their knowledge and working together through partnership working practice (Assiter, 2017). In this regard, improving verbal communication through arranging meetings, group discussion, open communication and telephonic conversation and implementing Information and Communication Technology at the workplace are important. On the other hand, non-verbal communications also necessary in the organisational context, where through personalise email, business portals, internal board of contacts, it is possible for the workers to communicate with each other (Murray, 2017; Arnold and Boggs, 2019). Hence, the individual needs to interact with the customers positively where the body language plays a crucial role on communicating with the customers.

Positive attitude, respecting the customers and impressive body language further helps the individual to interact with the customers and perform better in the professional field of health and social care, where it is necessary to acknowledge the actual needs and preferences of the customers (Buvaneswari, and Sylvia, 2018). Through communication, it is possible to understand customer’s preferences and it rather helps the individual to build strong bonding and deliver high quality service to the customers as per their preferences (Wihlborg et al., 2017). On the other hand, the inter-personal skill is necessary for the professional field, where critical thinking, problem solving and decisions making skill, as well as assertiveness and teamwork are necessary for the individual. In the context of working with others, it is necessary to develop appropriate team work with mutual understanding, respect to each other, managing cultural diversity, harmony and freedom as well as interdependence to each other. These are the major activities which are required to develop strong teamwork in the workplace. Hereby, in the context of health and social care, there are a wide range of professionals who need to be collaborative for working as partnership basis and maximise the values of the customers by delivering quality care and services to each of the con summers. Additionally, under the inter personal skill, it is also necessary to develop problem solving skill and decision making skill in order to analyse and evaluate the existing problems and develop proper solution together through gathering more different ideas among the team members (Skinner, Hyde and McPherson, 2016). In this context also, all the team members need to be cooperative so that more innovative ideas can be gathered through open discussion and the best possible solution can b chosen by the leader (Nägele and Stalder, 2017). Hereby, proper empowerment of the team members in the decision making practice, team collaboration and inter dependence are helpful for sharing knowledge and experience with others and improve own knowledge and technical skill to perform better in near future.

Analysing the role of lifelong learning and personal development

The role of lifelong learning and personal development is curial for achieving the professional success, where the individual can utilise the knowledge gathered from graduation as well as use transferrable skill for better performance (O'Toole, 2016). In this regard, the lifelong learning process further helps the individual to improve transferrable skill of inter personal skill, decision making and problem solving skill, leadership skill and team work as well as communication skill which in turn provide a scope to the individual to understand the organisational operations and perform better in near future (Millar, Crute and Hargie, 2017). Through developing proper learning program through sharing knowledge ad attending more training and development program, it is possible for the individual to enhance personal and professional development by gathering more in depth skill and personal experience.

Developing honesty, integrity and competent professional practice

As per the personal and professional development planning, it is the individual ethics t maintain honesty, integrity and fairness so that it is possible for the individual ton perform better in the professional field., it is the responsibility of the individual to maintain honesty to serve the customers and manage fairness by maintaining transparency and accountability in the workplace, so that it is possible to build trust and loyalty among the stakeholders including the employees suppliers and managements and also among the customers (Seal et al., 2015; Nägele and Stalder, 2017). This is effective for the individual to enhance own knowledge and capabilities to represent own self in the professional field and maintain individual ethics at the workplace. On the other hand, managing competence, adhering safety and security as well as ensuring quality service to the customers are the professional ethics to improve the professional image (Hatcher, 2015). Managing honesty, treating all the employees fairly and develop strong relationship at the workplace further helps the individual to manage workplace harmony and work collaboratively. The skill of flexibility, adaptability as well as willingness to learn new skills from others further help the individual to build strong bonding and enhance interdependence to work with others. Energetic personality and interpersonal skill further provide a scope to the individual to improve mutual understanding and respect each other for working as a team and maximise the team goals. This is effective for the individual to achieve future professional success and enhance in depth knowledge and technical skill through life long learning process.

Reflecting on own ability to demonstrate a professional image in behaviour and appearance

It is necessary of the individual to maintain professional image in the workplace and maintain appearance at the workplace (Pinto, Barham and Prette, 2016). In this regard, the individual is able to maintain corporate behaviour and develop string corporate relationship with other team members. Additionally, the individual is able to cooperate with their colleagues and team members and this in turn helps in future to get proper placement in the health and social care field where the individual can cooperate and develop appropriate team for performing as a partnership basis. Respecting each other, mutual understanding, maintaining professional ethics as well as individual ethics of harmony, competence, honesty and integrity are beneficial for the individual to maintain professional image at the organisation and develop proper organisational culture to perform efficiently (Meretoja, Lindfors and Kotila, 2019). Using corporate language at the workplace for communicating and engaging with other as well as managing transparency and accountability are also beneficial for the individual to preset own self at the organisation and maintain professional ethics properly. Body language and formal dressing also play a crucial role in maintaining professional image where the individual maintain formal dressing as well as body language with positive mid set energetic and communicative with further helps him or her to respect others and build strong corporate relationship in the workplace.

Evaluating previous learning experiences

As per the educational history, the individual has completed the health and social care course on the year of 2009-2010 in Newham College East Ham and after that, in the year of 2010-2011, the diploma course has been attempted in the same college to access the health and forensic science. After completing the diploma coursework, the individual has completed Honours course in business purchasing and supply chain management from Greenwich University. The graduate skill and transferable skill in this regard are beneficial for the individual to improve proper understanding in the health and social care field as well as achieve success in near future where the individual also has proper skill in business management, which in turn helps to manage the business activities of the organisation, mainly in the health and social care context. As per the job experience, the individual started career in 2010 and he or she was a office assistant in Guvnor, where the individual needed to fill the documents in the office, deal with the customers and resolve their enquires, managing banking, monitoring inventory levels and deal with the suppliers. In this job role, it was beneficial to handle the banking activities as well as manage the suppliers and customers also as the individual has completed the Honours coursework in Business purchasing and supply chain management. It was helpful to handle the business process as well as the customer, where he or she was able to build strong relationship with all the customers and develop proper planning to meet the customer’s needs and preferences.

After that, the individual, worked as head receptionist in Polloi restaurant in the year of 2013-2016 where he or she was able to handle the customers and manage the business activities proficiently. the role of the individual was to take bookings using open table system, deal with the guests and fulfil their enquires in the restaurant and hotel, where he or she was efficient to deliver quality service to all the customers as the individual was proficient in managing the business and handling the customers well by fulfilling their queries and meeting their needs and preferences properly. Hereby, the individual was efficient to handle the business and fulfil his or her own roles and responsibilities in the hotel. As the receptionist, it was his or her duty to handle the customers and manage their queries by providing proper answers according to the restaurant and hotel, where polite behaviour and cooperation with the customers further helps to fulfil the needs and preferences of all the consumers, coming to the hotel. Respecting each customer at the hotel as well as politeness and positive attitude of the individual further provides an opportunity to the individual to fulfil the requirements of the customers and manage them well with proper services at the hotel. In addition to these, communication plays a crucial role in this context to handle the business activities and manage the customers as a receptionist. It is the duty of the individual to handle the customers and develop strong relationship with the customers for retaining them for long run and positive interaction and communicative style of the individual are effective to handle the customers and fulfil their expectations well.

Confirming the bookings, and sending conformation email to the customers within proper timing was also the responsibility of the individual, where he or she was able to interact with the customers per the personalise emails as well as through telephonic conversation, where the individual was proficient to manage the customers and build strong bonding to manage them efficiently. As the head receptionist, it was the role of the individual to allocate the waiters another organisational resources for meeting the customer’s needs and preferences, where proper allocation of organisational resources and capabilities are effective for the individuals to handle the organisational activities and manage the business process proficiently, where proper allocation of the organisational resources raises the capabilities of the staff members and suppliers which in turn helps to fulfil the expectations of the customers in the hotel. On the other hand, hiring team members in the organisation is also the role of the individual, where recruiting the proficient staff in the restaurant is necessary for the individual to promote the restaurant and retain more customers in long run. Hereby, management of the business process, managing the employees and other staff members in the restaurant as well as handling the customers proficiently are possible for the individual in the hotel where the personal skill and graduate skill help him or her to enhance his or her capabilities to perform better and maximise the organisational goals and objectives successfully. In addition to these, during the year 2015 and 2016, he or she was working as a support workers where he or she went to the homes of the elderly people and gave them personal care and help them to participate and provide quality care and support to the elderly people at home. He or she used to cook for them and provided support on a daily basis so that they could participate in daily activities at home. This is also beneficial for the individual to enhance his or her capabilities in personal care where the graduate and transferrable skill of health and social care service would help the individual to provide proper treatment and care to the people, in need of personal care (Lima et al., 2016).

In addition to the above skill and capabilities, the individual also worked as assistant purchaser in Kampala International Hospital in the year of 2015 to 2017, and this job role was beneficial for the individual to enhance his or her capabilities and efficiency to manage the health and social care service at the hospital. In this regard, the graduate skill of health and social care and business purchase and supply chain management are effective for the individual to understand the business activities and process in the hospital as well as manage the purchase activities efficiently in order to handle the customers well and give them proper services from the end of the hospital. In this organisation, the individual was responsible to monitor and maintain the stock of the hospital as well as negotiate the prices and contact acts for the medical supplies. It is the serious role, where the individual needed to manage the stock of the medicines as well as convince the suppliers for distributing the medicines at effective price through negotiation of the prices and managing the contracts with the suppliers (Buvaneswari, and Sylvia, 2018). In addition to these, ensuring the orders, delivered at time is also the role of the individual, where the orders for the medicines at the hospitals need to be handling proficiently so that it can be distributed at right place within effective time (Theander et al., 2016).

The graduate skill and transferable knowledge of the individual further helps him or her to handle the stock of the medicines as well as cooperate with the suppliers for successful distribution of the medicines at right place by handling the orders of the medicines (Buvaneswari, and Sylvia, 2018). Additionally, the individual also requires to manage the updated invoice ad follow up the orders with the suppliers and in this regard also, the diploma and honours course on health and social care and business purchase and managing suppliers are effective for the individual to handle the involve process as well as manage the market demand and track the orders to a timely basis in order to manage the organisational stock of the medicine and distribute the products through managing proper supply chain, in this regard, the skill of cooperation and communication of the individual are effective to communicate with the suppliers and give them proper order tracking with proper medicines products o that the distributors and suppliers can able to deliver quality products within proper time. Hereby, the skill and knowledge of the individual is effective to handle the medicines stocks at the hospitals and fulfil the demand of the patients successfully. Moreover, the transferable skill of teamwork is appropriate in this case, as without teamwork, it is not possible for the individual to handle the health and social care management process where it is the role of the individual to deliver quality service to the customers or the patients (McGrath, and Rogers, 2019). Hereby, tracking the orders and managing the demand of the customers by maintaining the stock of the medicines at the hospitals depends on teamwork and cooperation, where the suppliers, distributor and other staff at the warehouse of the hospital need to be cooperative and communicative with the individual so that it is possible to manage the business purchase and the suppliers properly where the customers or the patients can get proper service from the hospital as per their health needs and prescribed medicines.

After that, from the year of 2017 to present, the individual worked in Leon restaurant as a supervisor where he or she needs to handle the cashing tills and stock taking and ordering where also, the individual has proper experience in handling the stock of the organisational and manage the market demand successfully. In addition to these, responding to the customers timely as well as serving on tills as well as train the new staff members at the restaurant and closing the shift are also the responsibility of the individual in working in the restaurant. Hereby, the transferable skill of the individual are effective for his or her to handle the organisational responsibilities and own duties where he or she is efficient to create values for the organisation as well as for the customers and employees where the individual as a supervisor try to maximise their preferences at the restaurant. The transferable skill of organising and handling the business process are effective in this regard, where the individual is able to manage the business process as well as manage the warehouse for maintaining the stock of the business. The above mentioned skill and capabilities are effective where the individual is successful to gather experience in working with the restaurants and also hospitals where the skill in the health and socials care services as well as the graduate knowledge in the business purchase and managing supplies of the business will provide a scope to the individual to work efficiently and fulfil the business goal through maintaining the operational activities of the organisations proficiently.

The individual has the skill on computer operations such as he or she is proficient in Ms office, Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook through which, the individual can review the organisational performance, manage the stock through excel and rack the demand for the organisational products and services through computerised system. The database of the organisations can be managed well through the computerised system, where the individual can improve his or her efficiency to handle the operational activities, manage the stock of the organisation and deliver quality service to the customers and this in turn helps the individual to manage the customers well with proper products and services according to their choice and preferences. The individual is approachable and confident in dealing with the customers where the positive attitude and respect each customer further helps the individual to handle the customers by building strong relationship with all the consumers in the organisation. Polite behaviour and positive conversation further improve the engagement with the customers and enhance bonding among them which in turn provides friendly atmosphere at the organisation to handle the customers where the consumers are also feeling free to share their needs and preferences which gives a chance to the individual to fulfil their requirements and maximise their satisfaction level by delivering quality products and efficient services (D’Sa, Scales and Gebru, 2018). Hereby, the transferrable skill of being confident, and approachable as well as polite behaviour and building strong relationship through interaction are effective or the individual to perform his or her job role and maximise the organisational goals and objectives.

In addition to the above skill and abilities of the individual, team working is one of the effective transferrable skill where he or she must be cooperative and coordinative with other team members and the individual must focus on encouraging team building activities so that it is possible for him or her to handle the organisational activities and operations proficiently as a team where every team members are working as a partnership basis and maximise own job roles and responsibilities. Hereby, team role and encouraging the partnership working practice are effective transferrable skill which will help the individual to work in the health and social care organisations efficiently by handling the operational activities efficiently. Moreover, cooperation and communication, both tare effective transferrable skill where the individual needs to be cooperative and interactive so that he or she can improve engagement with other team members as well as the customers in order to manage all the consumers proficiently. Hereby, both cooperation and communication are necessary for the individual to improve his or her career and perform better collaboratively. Being communicative and cooperative at the workplace are effective for team building activities as well as it provides an opportunity to the individual to share own views and experience with others and gather more in depth knowledge and skill through group discussion. Hereby, cooperation and communication is necessary where the individual needs to be interactive and improve communication skill for better performance (Carvalho, 2016).

The individual is also able to maintain flexibility at the workplace as well as, focuses on adaptability and willingness to learn more at the workplace, so that he or she is able to enhance own capabilities and efficiency to perform better in the workplace. In addition to this, energetic and creative mind set further help the individual to improve innovation and creativity to perform own roles and responsibility at the workplace. Apart from that, the tome management skill and target driven professional practice further enhances his or her abilities to manage the organisational activities and contribute positively in the organisation in order to maximise the organisational aims and objectives. Moreover, the managing patience level, communicative and listening the customer’s queries further helps the individual to improve understanding about the market trend and customer’s demand which in turn helps the individual to handle the organisational activities and fulfil the customer’s needs and preferences successfully (Nägele and Stalder, 2017). Hereby, both the graduate and transferable skill are effective for the individual to improve his or her own knowledge and capabilities in the organisation and it in turn helps the individual to gather more experience in near future. It is hereby, beneficial for the individual to gather more experience by working with others and identifying own limitations so that he or she can improve the in-depth knowledge and understanding through attending more training and development program. In this context, identifying the limitations and creating proper development plan will help the individual to improve own understanding continuously as well as enhance the transferrable skill for better performance in near future.

Limitation of own knowledge

After evaluating on experience and understanding, it is necessary for the individual to identify the limitations so that it is possible to develop future personal and professional development planning to achieve success in professional field. In this context, the major limitation is lack of time management or which it is difficult for the individual to conduct own roles and responsibilities in timely basis. As the worker in the health and social care industry, it is necessary to develop proper planning to manage time and conduct each task in the organisation timely so that it is possible for the individual to deliver high quality service to the customers according to their needs and preferences. The second is lack of creativity and innovation, where in such an era of globalisation, all the customers need innovative service to maximise their values. It is necessary of the individual to be creative and serve the individuals properly with efficient service and care. Hence, improve creativity and innovation through gather more in depth knowledge and technical skill in the business purchase and managing supplier’s context as well as health and social care field is important for the individual to achieve future professional success. Additionally, poor leadership skill is another limitation, where the individual face problems in managing the workplace, where it is necessary for the individual to manage the workplace with proper team work and internal harmony. It is problematic for the individual to have integral conflicts and resistance to change as it has negative impacts on team work and partnership working practice, where the individual at the workplace are not willing to share their values to each other (Arnold and Boggs, 2019). Hence, developing leadership skill is necessary for the individual to handle the workplace and manage the employees to lead them towards organisational success. Apart from that, lack of problem solving skill and decision making skill are other problem where the individual face difficulties to make effective decision for the customers after analysis the market trend and customer’s demand. In order to perform better in the professional filed, it is necessary for the individuals to develop problem solving and decision making skill to perform better and work efficiently to handle the organisational operational activities.

Prioritising the task, managing all the work proficiently and maintaining the operations in stock management and managing health and social care operational activities are effective for the individual to perform better and achieve future success. In addition to these, improving creative skill is necessary, in the health and social care context, where through innovation and creativity, the individual can maintain the operational work at the organisation. In this regard, improving creativity is helpful for the individual where he or she needs to improve computer skill and manage computerised database in order to manage the business purchase, tracking orders and managing the customers properly (Lima et al., 2016). Computerised database and handling the online activities in the health and social care system will be effective for the individual to improve his or her efficiency to perform better and achieve future organisational success in the recent era of globalisation, there is strong digitalisation across different industries worldwide and thus it would be beneficial for the individual to enhance his or her technical skill and knowledge to perform better and manage the customers online as well as maintain the business purchase, computerised database and operational activities through online service, so that proper data and information can be handle properly and the individual is able to deliver quality service within effective time (Arnold and Boggs, 2019; Lima et al., 2016).

Hereby, the creative skill and innovation of the individual are effective transferrable skill that will also help to manage time and deliver efficient services to the customers in the market. Additionally, the problem solving skill and decision making skill also need to be improved for the individual where these are effective transferrable skill for achieving professional growth and in this regard, the individual needs to analyse the organisational situation and develop appropriate decision for handling the operational activities (D’Sa, Scales and Gebru, 2018). For example, in the health and social care context, the individual needs to improve the decision making skill after analysing the problem of the patients and other family members so that he or she can deliver high quality service according to the health needs and preferences of the patients. This is hereby important for the individual to enhance the knowledge and capabilities of making decision, so that the organisational operational activities can be managed well at the workplace (D’Sa, Scales and Gebru, 2018). Apart from that, the leadership skill is also necessary for achieving professional success and in this regard, the individual needs to control the workplace rules and encourage all the team members to develop effective group to lead them towards achieving success (Walsh, 2018). The individual also needs to empower all the team members as well as support all of them for managing the workplace and performing better as a team. Hereby, the leadership skill of the individual also needs to be developed through developing suitable working culture, managing responsibility, enhancing creativity and the skill of decisions making and problem solving so that the individual can manage the organisational activities proficiently and achieve future professional goal.
