In order to gain entry into MSc in Adult nursing, the presence of health or any science-related degree at 2.2 or above is required which is completed within the last five years of attempting the course. The health or science-related backgrounds may include psychology, biology, physiology, social sciences and others. In addition, 650 minimum hours of health and social care experience is required to be undertaken within the last 12 months before applying for the course. A Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is required for demonstrating the experience. Moreover, the student is required to have grade 4 or above marks in at least five GCSEs before 2017 which includes Math and English Language along with preferred science subject or equivalent qualification in the last five years (kingston.ac.uk, 2021). The focus on the presence of health or science-related degree with healthcare experience is the appropriate process for entering the course. This is because without prior healthcare experience the individual would lack to understand the basics of nursing needed at the master’s level by the individual. In addition, without health or science-related knowledge, the individual would be unable to understand the basic process to be involved and learned for the degree. Therefore, the entry requirements mentioned in the process to apply for the course is appropriate.

The process of entry into MSc in Adult Nursing after meeting the initial requirement of the qualification include appearing for an interview that is taken by academic staff members of the University related with the course (kingston.ac.uk, 2021). This is important as it allows the academic individuals to evaluate the efficiency of the person to be included in the course for understanding and completing it so that inappropriate people are not included in the course which would be loss of time and effort. Further, the process includes occupational health screening and Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) checking if the course is been offered to the person (kingston.ac.uk, 2021). This is essential procedure followed in gaining entry into the course because the nurses responsible in taking the course is to be healthy so that they show physical and mental capability in learning the course and implemented the learned skills in care as required.

I am effectively fit for applying to the course of MSc in Adult Nursing because I am already pursuing my degree for BSc Nursing where I have learned regarding the basic of nursing. However, I wish to specialise in the area of Adult nursing because during the course placement I have seen that most of the adults are need increased need of nursing support and in many instances, the nurses with basic nursing courses face hardship in effectively fulfilling their needs. Moreover, I have enhanced critical thinking and communication skills due to which I perceive I would be able to learn through enhanced interaction in higher education regarding adult nursing. Moreover, I have enhanced compassion and empathy skills which would help me to become a specialised adult nurse as adults required more compassion and empathy in care out of they been treated improperly in most context due to their health issues. Thus, I think that apart from academic ability, I have professional competencies required for the completion of the course due to which I wish to apply for it.

The MSc in Adult Nursing course is to be executed from Kingston University, UK. This is because the university is ranked number 1 in the UK for Nursing and Midwifery courses in London (theguardian, 2021). Moreover, the university is preferred by me over others because it would provide active work experience in different areas of London or Surrey in acute care hospital for adults (kingston.ac.uk, 2021). Thus, it would create a practical opportunity for me to learn the advanced skills of adult nursing in acute care. The university is also chosen because it helps in accessing hands-on knowledge apart from theoretical information regarding nursing skills though role play actors and high-fidelity patient simulators (kingston.ac.uk, 2021).

The nature of Higher Education is providing information to create deeper insight into the theories and models related to topics being learned. The personal qualities required at higher education is increased patience, dedication and critical thinking to analyse complex topic without getting confused in loads of information (Carlson et al., 2017). The key academic qualities required at higher education are strategic presentation skills, enhanced researching ability, reflective practice and critical thinking. In higher education, one of the practical problems to be faced is increased costs for the course. This is because increased finances and variable fees are seen to be required in completing the course (Mintz, 2021). The strategy to overcome the problem is applying for student loan to access finances for the course to complete it which can later be met through active working. Another practical problem in moving to the higher education is increased mental health struggles is faced due to the academic pressure developed at the level which affects the performance of students (Csapó and Molnár, 2017). The strategy to overcome the problem is developing a strategic plan for the study so that learning can be done as per schedule without feeling burden on the mental health.
