Reflective Journey through PSKC Module

Refection is the process of evaluating past experiences, activities and performances in terms of determining one’s strength and weakness. In this reflective essay, I will discuss my experiences and knowledge that I had gathered throughout the PSKC module. In this reflection, I will discuss how I became a perfect learner during the module. In this reflection, I am going to use Driscoll’s Model of Reflection in terms of analysing my previous performance and experience throughout the six weeks of PSKC module to determine my strength, areas of improvement and professional as well as personal skills. In the reflective essay, I will demonstrate how I will use professional skill, knowledge and experiences that I had gathered throughout the module to combat the future challenges thereby meeting desired goals in near future.

During week 1, the purpose of the session was conducted the introductory class in which students can introduce themselves in front of their peers and lecturers. The entire study session this week was highly impressive and interesting in which our lecturers introduced the topics and subjects that are included in the module. The most memorable thing of this week was the discussion on ‘Bucks Graduate Attributes’ which was quite interesting and informative to me in terms of enhancing my knowledge about how to integrate study skill with the professional and employability skill to enhances the good career opportunity in near future. In this session lectures also discussion about the International Standard SSO Interface along with Unify RM. While studying these topics, I had made a thorough research on them by selecting valuable resources and using the resources in the right manner to gather good knowledge on these topics. As stated by Knapp et al. (2017), refection can assist the learner to evaluate the strength and weakness that are important to shape their skill and knowledge. During the session, I determined that I have poor IT skill and lack of technical knowledge that I will improve through attending practical classes on technological skill and discussing with my lecturers in ongoing class on digitalisation.

During week 2, the purpose of the study session was to develop technical skill, digital literacy and reading skill. This week was highly informative to me in which I had gathered knowledge of information technology, the application program and operating system. During the digital literacy class lecturers discussed on typing skills, grammar composition, skill to produce images, texts, graphics and designs using online application programs. During the class, I had faced some issues to understand the process of using the application program to make a graphic image. Although I felt shy and hesitated to communicate the issue with my lecturers in front of the class entre class, I asked the query to lecturers. Lecturers described the entire process to use an application program to make online graphics and text which was useful to improve my technical as well as computer skill. In this session; lectures also emphasized on improving the reading skills that not only assisted me to improve my English accent and fluency but also made me learn how to develop a smart and brief interaction with other people to establish my views in front of them. Communication and effective interaction skill are important for developing good careers opportunities in near future (Sterling et al. 2016). Throughout the session, I determined that I had weakness in written communication skill and team management skill that I will develop while working in a different project with team members.

During week 3, the study session aimed to develop academic writing skill and process of citing references. During the session, lecturers discussed many types of refereeing styles that are generally used academic writing such as Harvard, APA, Chicago and MLA. Lecturers also discussed different academic writing styles such as a report, essay and dissertation. Academic writing skill can be developed through writing various content regularly (Ni'ma et al. 2020). During the session, I was assigned with many projects on different topics which assisted me to develop my grammatical skill as well as my knowledge in sentence formation. I had learned how to use the right phrases and grammars by using simple English to create understandable content. I also learned how to work on the project criteria while working on any topic and write the entire project by using valid and appropriate reverences. During the study, I determined that I had difficulties in differentiating between criteria of the structured and non-structured essay. In this context, I can solve this difficulty by regular practice of writing on different essay topic and undertaking lectures.

During week 4, the study aimed to discuss Driscoll’s Model of Reflection (1994) in which lecturers discussed how to use the model to create a self-refection. The study session assisted me to learn how to use Driscoll’s model of reflection (1994) in a reflective essay in terms of evaluating my past experiences and performance thereby determining my strength and weakness. Through using this model in a reflective essay, I determined that my strengths are strong interaction skill, verbal communication skill and time management skill and my weakness are lack of written communication skill, poor adaptability and lack of teamworking skill. I will transform my weakness into my strength through practising regular writing, attending extra classes on teamwork and working in the workshop with different team members and mentors.

The purpose of week 5 was to develop research skill and analysing skill. Throughout the study session, I had learned how to conduct research on different topics and use authentic as well as relevant resources. During this study session, I realised that I needed to improve the knowledge on inclusion and exclusion criteria while selecting resources. In this context, I will research how to use inclusion and exclusion criteria to gather valid and useful resources.

Purpose of week 6 was to develop knowledge of using MS word. Throughout the session, I had developed my technological skill and IT skill that will assist me in near future to grab a good career opportunity. I had also learned the use of MS word while writing different academic content.

From the overall reflection on the knowledge and skill that I gathered throughout the module, I can conclude that the entire module was very informative and interesting to me which improved my professional and personal skill. The reflection also concludes that throughout the module I have not only developed new skill and academic knowledge but also shaped my existing skill. The skills and knowledge that I gathered throughout the module will assist me to get a good career opportunity in near future.
