The first step in conducting any research task is first developing a comprehensive schedule that outlines the different tasks that I will undertake. Each assignment task must have prescribed timeline indicating when it will be completed and a column where I can mark a given task as either complete or incomplete. However, before delving into the timelines, it is first important to check how much the assignment is worth in terms of marks and what percentage it accounts for in the final marks. This will help determine how much time I have to spend on this assignment. Further, the deadline for submission of the assignment will help me in determining. Having looked at the learning outcomes and the tutor’s instructions regarding the expectations and marking criteria, it is easier to narrow down the research into areas of focus. The marking schedule in the Module Assessment brief is useful in highlighting the areas that my assignment must cover to gain high marks. After having understood the structure and outline of the assignment I will now begin the process of finding information by visiting the library, consulting experts in the area of high performance in sports and looking at online sources.

Structure

In essence the assignment will have three parts which will include: Introduction, Discussion and Conclusion. The introduction part of the assignment will introduce the topic by giving a brief background and history of high performance in sports and how sporting organisations have used the concept. It will further introduce theoretical underpinnings of high performance management and briefly explain the purpose of the assignment and its relevance to the module. I will also explain briefly, the intended outcomes and findings of the assignment. However, this part will be written last so that I know exactly what to include in the introduction part. I will first define the theory of high performance and explain how it applies to sporting organisation. Thereafter I will identify a particular organisation that has applied High Performance Management concept in sporting activities like athletics and football. Having identified a given organisation, I will visit the organisation to obtain information on how they are utilising high performance in the sporting activities and how successful they have been in that quest. I will thereafter review the performance of the chosen organisation against the criteria for high performance. The introduction part will cover some of the issues highlighted above.

The second part of the assignment will be discussion which will be the bigger chunk of the paper. It will consist of a number of paragraphs of not more than two hundred words each. After deciding on the ideas to include in the body of the paper, I will assign each idea to a paragraph and discuss it at length taking into account referencing guidelines and plagiarism policy. To achieve paragraph unity and coherence, I will utilise topic sentences, supporting and concluding sentences. The next part of the assignment will entail the production of a diagnostic report on the way in which the organisation meets the criteria associated with high performance. In doing this, I will concentrate on the strengths and weaknesses of the organisation in question and even how such factors impact on the application of the high performance theory. I will further analyse the current trend in sporting organisations where more emphasis is now place on creating advantage in competitions by teams. I will discuss the concept of creating advantage in relation to high performance and how it has changed the face of sporting in Europe and the United States.

The conclusion part will contain a brief restatement of main arguments regarding high performance in sporting organisations. It will also summarise the ideas raised throughout the paper and revisit the conclusions and findings made. I will take care not to introduce any new ideas in this part because it should be a simple summary of the whole paper. Having completed the three parts of the paper, I will include my bibliography and references and treat tit as the first draft. The first draft should be ready within a week so that I can revise it for purposes of fine tuning and making the writing has a smooth flow and transition from one idea to the next. I will keep different copies of the first draft so that I can easily go back and review it. After writing the first draft and fine tuning it, I will proceed to edit and proofread the work. During editing and proofreading I will check whether I have answered the questions correctly and if the answers meet the desired learning outcomes. I will also consider whether the assignment meets the correct structure and format. At this point, I will check details including, referencing, page numbers, grammar, punctuation, spelling and personal details required for the assignment.
