Understanding Plagiarism

Introduction

Plagiarism refers to the process of using the data, information or idea of any other person without acknowledging them. It is a kind of dishonest activity which can be done by any person. It has been considered that plagiarism is a kind of stealing data from other writers. If a person copies any expressions or ideas of any original work without giving them proper credits, then it can be called plagiarism. Moreover, collusion or plagiarism can be done by unintentionally or intentionally. If a student does not know about how to properly cite then plagiarism can happen. So it is essential to teach them properly about different kinds of plagiarism and the process of not getting plagiarism.

Plagiarism can be done by an international approach if the writer is incorrectly paraphrasing any article. In addition to this if the writer does not give proper credit to the author whose research paper or information is used, then plagiarism can happen. Insufficient confidence or Procrastination can cause these kinds of major mistakes. Even if there is unintentional plagiarism, it is not acceptable (Fair et al. 2016). Plagiarism is considered as an ethical work which should not be done by a person with morality.

There are different kinds of plagiarism such as paraphrasing plagiarism, accidental plagiarism, inaccurate authorship, complete plagiarism, auto or self plagiarism, source based plagiarism, mosaic plagiarism and direct plagiarism. However, if any data has been copied by the writer and he or she is claiming that the data is generated by their own, then it is a case of unintentional plagiarism. Proper investigation is essential to be done for analysing the truth (Holyfamily.libguides.com, 2020).

If a person is rephrasing the idea and information of any other author without doing proper citation, then it could be a serious kind of plagiarism (Kumar & Boriwal, 2019). Apart from this if a person is directly copying any paragraph from the previously published journals or articles, then it could be called as verbatim plagiarism. In addition to this is the writer is combining ideas and text from multiple resources without doing proper citation; then it is a severe kind of plagiarism which is called mosaic plagiarism.

According to the above discussion, it can be stated that there are different types of plagiarism which can happen while discussing any kind of topic. Plagiarism is common, and it can be done intentionally or unintentionally. It is essential to get proper awareness about plagiarism while doing any kind of assignment for discussing previous pieces of literature published by another author. The students need to properly give credits to all the authors and follow some basic techniques for avoiding plagiarism.
