COVID-19 Transmission and Prevention

According to World Health Organization (2020), the researchers at the John Hopkins University have brought forth the research that approximately 1.5 million people worldwide have been infected by the Corona Virus Identification 19 strain so far. The global mortality figure from the infection caused by COVID19 is currently 1,00,376 and 3,68,669 personnel have been able to recover from this disease. This particular viral disease causes respiratory complications in the comparable manner of Influenza and the symptoms are fever, cough and breathing complications when the disease advances to a severe stage. The mode of transmission is primarily identified as through contact between an infected person and those who have not been previously infected. The virus gets transmitted whenever the infected patients could cough or sneeze and whenever any person could touch or comes into contact a surface or an object or group of objects which could have been contaminated by the virus.

The person, after touching the surface of such a virus contaminated object, gets infected whenever the person could touch the eyes, nose or mouth of himself or herself. It is necessary to protect oneself through consistently and repeatedly washing the hands and face on a frequent basis. Furthermore, it is also necessary to avoid touching the face, nose or eyes (Wu and McGoogan, 2020). However, it is necessary, above everything else, to completely avoid close social contact with other personnel and one could ensure safety through remaining at a distance at least 1 meter or 3 feet (alternatively at least 6 feet) from people who could be demonstrative of the symptoms of coronavirus infected patients or from personnel who could be unwell physically.

It is necessary to maintain this social distancing since, whenever anyone could sneeze, cough or do both, small liquid droplets get sprayed from the noses of such patients or from their mouths and such droplets generally contain the COVID 19 virus. Whenever the hitherto unaffected person could breathe in the droplets, the COVID 19 virus could find a way into the bio-pathological system of the infected person if the person who could have been coughing, could have been infected by the virus. According to Mehta et al (2020), the numbers of confirmed cases of infection at the USA is 432000 and the extent of mortality is 14800 within the country. In a similar manner, the numbers of confirmed COVID 19 positive cases of infection at the United Kingdom is 61400 and out of these infected patients, 7100 personnel have died. The virus had originated from the Hubei province of China.
