Improving Services for Mental Illness

Introduction

It is the responsibility of the human service providers to deliver quality services to the service users according to their actual needs and preferences. The aim of the study is to analyse the service requirements of the people who are suffering from mental illness of eating disorders, stress disorder and suicidal tendency. Existing policies and practices will be evaluated as well as recommendation will be developed so that the service providers can meet the needs and preferences of the service users.

Services required by the service users

The services that are required by the people, suffering from mental illness are proper support, medication, rehabilitation activities and counselling through which they can overcome their issues of eating disorders and suicidal tendencies as well as lack of stress control (Le Grand, 2018). It is important to acknowledge the needs and preferences of such group of people where therapeutic communication needs to be enhanced (Kilbourne et al., 2018). The service users of this group need proper support from the service provides where the service providers can motivate and encourage the individuals and lead them toward normal life. Proper medication related to neurology is necessary for managing stress and depression as well as proper counselling by efficient psychologist are also the major requirements of this group of people where they are suffering from mental illness (Delaney et al., 2018). The individuals are also seeking help and support to improve their inclusion in the society and get friendly atmosphere where they can express their feelings an cooperate with the service providers to overcome their mental health problems.

Policies and legislations

Policies and legislations are effective in this case where the service providers try managing fairness for all the individuals so that they can access efficient treatment and quality care. In this context Equality Act 2010 is necessary where all the individuals are treated well and fairly where transparency and accountability are the major practice through which the social care providers can serve all the individuals with care. Additionally, Mental Health Act 2007 and Health and Social Care Act 2010 are also effective to maximise quality standard of care and support he individual with mental illness with medication, treatment and counselling (Le Grand, 2018).

Conclusion

It can be concluded that, the policies and practice of mental illness are effective to deliver quality care to the service users who seek support to maximise their wellbeing and lead a normal life by mitigating the problem of eating and stress disorder as well as suicidal tendencies.

Recommendations

It is necessary to empower the service users in the care plan to acknowledge their preferences and their perception about life as well as identify the reasons behind the mental illness. Secondly, it is important to enhance therapeutic communication with the patients so that they can express their feelings ad develop friendly relationship for cooperation in social activities and taking active part in counselling which in turn helps to motivate the individual to overcome their disability and improve their standard of living.
