An investigation of the factors leading to increased plastic surgery among young women in the UK

What is your Aim?

The aim of your project can be summarised as what you are aiming to do. The aim will direct you as a researcher and those that read your work. Please have only one aim – and no more than one! A good aim rarely takes more than one or two lines to write. One sentence should be sufficient. Further, do not use the terms ‘and’ or ‘also’ in the aim as using these will almost always mean you have two or more aims.

Your AIM:

Research highlights that despite the lack of evidence to support financial capabilities to finance cosmetic surgery among women in the UK, the practice of cosmetic surgery has significantly risen in the recent past. The study as such aims to highlight the factors that have contributed to the increased cosmetic surgery procedures among women in the UK.

Compiling your objectives

Objectives are sometimes called Milestones or Key Stages and these assist you to achieve your aim. Most projects have between 3 or 4 objectives. Too many objectives may indicate that your topic requires “narrowing down”. The objectives are not purely about the process itself so it would be inappropriate to suggest an objective of “to carry out a literature review”, more useful would be “…to ascertain the relationship between x, y and z as detailed within the current literature.”

Before you start writing your objectives, think about what the key issues are within your research topic and the overall question you are addressing in your research project.

To determine the elements which have pushed more women in the UK into cosmetic surgery

To identify the common types of cosmetic surgery that are available in the UK for women the factors that impact increased plastic surgery among women in the UK

To explore the globalised sense young and slim as beautiful on increased push for cosmetic surgery by UK women

Project Rationale:

The project rationale sets out why you are carrying out the research and why the research is important, i.e. who will benefit from the research and how will your research make a contribution to either the current literature or industry best practice or a specific organisation or group of individuals.

Rationale: According to the British Association of Aesthetic plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) (2019) Cosmetic surgery is an intricate procedure which is often reserved as a last resort solution to patients who have suffered chronic illnesses such as breast cancer or as a solution to severe burns or scarring and body damages however different individuals have taken it up to improve parts of their body with the aim of appearing more attractive or more preferable which can ultimately be described as misuse. This not only influences their lives directly but also in some cases has significantly reduced the individuals’ health and outlook, for instance Katie Price as highlighted by Kindon, Pike and Saunders (2019). Through identifying the factors impacting increased cosmetic surgery among women in the UK as well as the consequences of the procedure, a better solution can be identified and implemented to minimize the instances of the procedure.
