POINT-TO-POINT PROTOCOL (PPP)

The Point-to-point Protocol (PPP) protocol is a non-proprietary protocol, indicating that it can be utilized by diverse vendors. It encapsulates multiple network protocols; possesses authentication methods; dynamic addressing, multilink and callback (Wikipedia, 2018).

The PPP Protocol is composed of three primary elements:

The LCP protocol offers the following configuration options:

• Compression: Decreases the size of the data in the frame being delivered to the destination.

• Error detection: PPP utilises the Quality and Magic Number features to guarantee a safe interconnection.

• Multilink: Comprises of separating the traffic throughout several interfaces and WAN links, through the fragmentation of packages.
