Breathing New Life: A Journey Into Respiratory Medicine

PERSONAL STATEMENT

Medicine is a dynamic field I believe to be my vocation. While studying medicine, I committed to finding a specialty that aligns perfectly with my future goals and personality. Though this task seems uncomplicated and straightforward, I currently realize that specialization in Respiratory Medicine is my path after several years of practice. After exploring other specialties and reflecting on my skills, I realized that I am compassionate and knowledgeable. After caring for COVID-19 patients, a contagious respiratory disease caused by a new strain of coronavirus, I realized that many people were suffering due to respiratory diseases. Other than the COVID-19, I realized that more than 65 million individuals suffer from chronic obstructive pulmonary infections, while more than 3 million individuals die annually due to pulmonary diseases. Therefore, from my early interest in pulmonary infections and my recent experience with COVID-19, I have developed a great passion for helping patients with pulmonary diseases. Besides, I understand the significance of treating people in a non-judgmental way and with respect. Therefore, I feel that it is critical to utilize the role of a pulmonary doctor to promote wellbeing. I realized the significance of treating patients holistically and that doctors need skills to deal with the health implications of psychological and physical complaints. Therefore guided by my passion and ambitions, I am applying for Postgraduate Diploma in Respiratory Medicine at your institution.

Postgraduate Diploma in Respiratory Medicine is a course that offers an individual the opportunity to study and explore the key classes of respiratory disease. Besides, the course equips learners with understanding and knowledge of respiratory medicine, highlighting modern research and developments in treating and diagnosing respiratory infections. Therefore, studying this course will enable me to gain critical skills designed to deal with complex problems. However, I am also aware that the course is suitable for qualified and competent healthcare professionals and intercalating medical students. I am confident that I am the most qualified candidate to pursue this field of study. I pursued Post-graduation in Clinical Internal Medicine at the University of Buckingham, UK. The program involved rotations in various branches of medicine where I have gained knowledge about different specialties of General Medicine. I gained significant theoretical, research, and practical knowledge and skills critical in medicine and health care from this course. Similarly, I pursued a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at Sree Siddhartha Medical College & Hospital. This course equipped me with critical clinical skills, knowledge, and competencies appropriate for holistic medical practitioners. Also, I gained professional etiquette and ethics necessary for safe medical practice, thus making me the ideal candidate to study Postgraduate Diploma in Respiratory Medicine at your institution.

Besides, I am professionally qualified to study this field of study. Currently, I am working as SHO/ ST1/2 at Medecho Locum Agency in General Medicine. In this position, I am tasked with ward rounds with the consultants and on my own, and blood sampling. Similarly, I liaise with nursing staff, other House officers, and consultants to help run the ward and department smoothly and safely. From this role, I have learned teamwork, communication, and analytical skills, which I believe are critical in this field of study. Moreover, I am currently holding a PLAB Tutor position at Arlington British Medical Academy, UK. In this position, I tutor International Medical Graduates before they could start working in the NHS, UK. In this position, I have advanced my knowledge in healthcare guidelines, communication skills, and other skills which I can apply in the field of study. Furthermore, I worked as a Senior Medical Officer at Dwarakamayi Hospital, Karimnagar, India. In this position, I was tasked with daily departmental duties, including ward rounds with the consultants. Also, I liaised with nursing staff, other medical officers, and consultants to help run the ward and department smoothly and safely. Also, I worked as a Trust Registrar at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, where I am tasked with liaising with nursing staff, other middle-grade doctors, respiratory Clinical Nurse specialists, and consultants to help run the ward and department smoothly and safely. I have held other positions over time, which I believe make me the ideal candidate, including the Volunteer position at PLAB Teaching- Aspire2PLAB Ltd, UK, Trust Senior House Officer Position at London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust, and Clinical Training Fellow position at Life Line Hospital. From these positions, I have gained extensive knowledge, which makes me confident that I am the best candidate to advance my studies in Respiratory Medicine.

I am a positive, passionate, and hardworking individual with a great interest in learning, teaching, and succeeding from my skills sets. Therefore, I have chosen the University of South Wales to advance my career due to the quality of professors available at the university, which assures me of quality education. Besides, I am aware that this university equips learners with the most critical empirical and theoretical tools necessary to succeed in health care. Besides, it offers high-quality education and research, thus proving strong graduate employability.
