I believe I am the most qualified candidate for the marketing and insights industrial placement at Pernod Ricard. From my previous employer, while working as a sales executive, I gained an ideal experience for this position. Being part of the sales and marketing team, where I was assigned the role of providing digital marketing support to the marketing department, analysing marketing data, being actively involved in sales promotion activities and organizing events for promotion, preparing a yearly business plan and maintain strong customer relationships, etc. I believe I gained valuable experience which would promote your company’s goals and objectives. Moreover, from the position, I learned how to help brand managers in strategic developments and built and retained long-term friendships/relationships with customers. Looking at my skills, I have learned project planning and management, budgeting, communication, time management, problem-solving skills being honest and creative which I believe are crucial in marketing and industry insight. Moreover, having a BA politics degree and being fluent in three languages English, Arabic and Tagalog Philippines language, increase the number of customers I can reach hence making me the best candidate. Moreover, having learned business management and marketing makes me the most ideal individual for this post.

Tell us about a time when you worked in a team. What was your role and what did you achieve? (200 words)

As a sales executive at Samsung Company, in a team of four employees, we were assigned the role of designing a marketing strategy to market the company product. In the group, I was assigned the role of a marketing team leader. I was assigned this role due to my excellent skills and good command in information technology. In my capacity, I was tasked with leading and training the marketing team and ensuring that the team operates within its established and approved budget. Moreover, my roles and responsibilities included coming up with team’s strategy, providing all the relevant training for the members of the team and among other roles, monitoring participation of team members to ensure effective use of the acquired training, and also observe where additional training was required for the achievement of the team goals. After conducting comprehensive marketing research, we came up with the best strategy which involved; innovative packaging which we also helped in the development, the use of Frontal Attack strategy, and a well-structured marketing campaign among other proposals which once adopted promoted sales and profits of the company greatly. Due to the success of the company and the strategy, I was awarded the team leader of the year award.

Describe a situation where you didn't achieve the outcome you wanted. How did you handle the situation and what would you do differently? (200 words)

While still working as a sales executive and after developing a market strategy that was very excellent in generating profits, the marketing manager assigned me the role of the market research analyst. In this role, I was tasked with collecting marketing data, analysing the data using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) and giving a presentation to the company chief executive among other guests. Having little knowledge in SPSS, I collected the required data, talked to the management to avail of the required software which I was sure I wasn't competent in. Being troubled by the assignment, I spent nights reading about SPSS and how to analyse data, unfortunately, I never gained the required skills and competence to analyses the data. Moreover, from the fear of being fired, I never wanted to request any assistance from the company. When the presentation day came, I only had limited content to present. After the presentation, the chief executive officer of the company congratulated me though, I knew he was just concerned about my motivation since the presentation and data analysis was poor. Today in a similar case, having improved my courage and communication skills, I would address the issue earlier for a temporary data analyst to be hired or else attend a short training course on data analysis.
