Pursuing a Career in Mental Health Nursing

PERSONAL STATEMENT

Since long time ago, I have been fascinated by Mental Health Nursing. Additionally, from the skills I acquired while pursuing mental health social work course, I discovered that mental health was my career path. Mental health is also one of the most emotionally fulfilling careers available, which will also enable me to combine helping people's mental wellbeing with their physical health. My traits as a humble and hardworking individual also motivate me to pursue a long life career which gives me an opportunity that involves both academic and practical study. From my previous studies, I am aware of the importance of treating people in a non-judgmental manner and with respect in a mental health setting. I, therefore, feel that it is critical to utilize the role of Mental Health practitioner to promote mental health illness to the public. Apart from being an excelling student, I believe that nursing is a vocational career, and it comes with rewards if you have the correct attitude. Therefore, guided by my fascination and objectives, I wish to pursue a Post Graduate Degree in Nursing (Adult Mental Health) at your institution.

This course prepares competent nurses, therefore, requires competent students. Looking at my academic qualification, I have pursued BSc Honors in Management (Oil & Gas) from Plymouth University – London. This course has equipped me with management skills, leadership skills, critical analysis skills which I believe are critical in nursing. Moreover, I pursued BSc in business administration from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. This course equipped me with accounting skills, teamwork skills, communication skills and other skills which are critical to dealing with mental health individuals and their families. From my fascination to work in the health care sector, I also pursued various courses to increase my competence in mental health nursing. For instance, I pursued Mandatory Training for Health Care Workers. This course equipped me with anatomy knowledge, physiology and mental health knowledge in general, which makes me the most qualified candidate to study a postgraduate degree in nursing (Mental Health). Additionally, I pursued Basic Nursing Skills Training Course, which has equipped me with wealthy knowledge of how the health care sector operate and well as critical skill with would enable me to deal with families and communities. This year, I also pursued an additional course in Mental Health Social Work Course, which makes me the most qualified candidate to study nursing (Mental Health). Other training which I have undertaken includes; First Aid at Work, Automated External Defibrillation, and Safer Restraint Awareness Training which I believe are particularly critical to patients suffering from mental health disorders.

Looking at my professional experience, I have worked as a Security Officer at CIS security, Wilson-James, and wise security – London. Other organization where I have worked as a security officer includes; JP Morgan, Lealman brothers, financial services authority and public venue and the 02 Arena, Wembley Arena, London Stadium. This position has increased my attention to details, communication skills, alertness and other skills which are critical to mental health care. Currently, I am also working at assurance nursing agency where I am a health care assistant. This position also makes me the most suitable candidate to further my studies in nursing- Adult Mental Health. Other health care organizations where I have worked as a care assistant includes; Barnet hospital, Willesden Health centre, May Day Hospital and Care Homes. All these positions equipped me with the most appropriate skills to pursue my postgraduate studies.

My traits also are admirable and make me among the most qualified candidate to pursue this course. Looking at my traits, I am a positive, proactive, enthusiastic, and hardworking and self-motivated individual who strives to achieve the best. My communication skills and teamwork skills are excellent. Moreover, I have perfect knowledge of how the health care sector operates. Being a flexible individual, I possess the core skills needed to thrive in modern health care. Therefore, I am committed to striving to achieve my best since I have chosen the institution that will assist me in being the best. I am therefore optimistic that I will be prepared well for the modern job market.
