Pursuing a Career in MRes Medical Robotics and Imaging

PERSONAL STATEMENT

Since a long time ago, science has always been my keen interest and always wanted to pursue a career that would change the lives of people. However, I was undecided as to what particular career I needed. To form my background, I am pursuing BEng Mechatronics Engineering at Middlesex University – London. After being introduced to engineering, I came to realize that I needed a course which blends engineering and the medical field. After researching and following my interest, I discovered that MRes Medical Robotics and Image is the path to follow. Moreover, having a great interest in research, I have come to realize that pursuing this course would give me significant knowledge in research, which would allow me to interact with other researchers globally and make a meaningful contribution to society. Furthermore, this course is a rare and exceptional combination of science, technology, people care, research and health. Therefore, this combination motivates me to pursue MRes Medical Robotics and Image in my higher education. Thus, guided by my interest, personal goals, and fascination, I am applying for MRes Medical Robotics and Image at your institution.

Robotic and autonomous systems are currently being used in many sectors such as remote sensing, healthcare, as well as industrial manufacturing. However, MRes in Medical Robotics and Image-Guided Intervention is a course that provides students with research experience required in the modern job market. My motivation in this field comes from Ronald Nutt and David Townsend, who are known for their work of inventing the PET-CT scanner. This technology uses Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Computerized Tomography (CT) for precise anatomic localization. These researchers make me believe that with knowledge in mechanical engineering and MRes in Medical Robotics and Image-Guided Intervention, I can come up with more sophisticated technology to solve some of the most challenging issues in the medical and diagnostic imaging.

Academically, I am fully qualified for this course. From my educational background, I am pursuing BEng Mechatronics Engineering at Middlesex University. From this course, I pursued modules such as Design Engineering project1, Electronics, Programming, Engineering in context, Control system, Robotics, and Mechatronics. I believe that these modules are very critical to MRes in Medical Robotics and Image-Guided Intervention course. Furthermore, I pursued Secondary Education at Chalkhills academy, where I learned mathematics and physics, which improved my problems solving skills and analytical skills. Besides, during my education period, I have also won various awards, such as the IMechE design challenge certificate from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. Working as a team, we completed the Institute of Mechanical Engineers Undergraduate Design Challenge in fourth place. Also, I won a WorldSkills UK Live Mechatronics competition when we competed WorldSkills Mechatronics competition as a team and finished in position six in the United Kingdom. From completing these challenges, my teamwork and communication skills were greatly improved.

Looking at my work experience, I am currently working as a floor manager at Venue central. In this position, I am tasked with leading a team of 10-20 staff, managing the floor and back office and reporting to upper management and among other roles, deal with customer service queries, as well as a new business. This position has improved my problem-solving skills, teamwork skills, which makes me the most qualified candidate for this coursed. Being a student who enjoys sharing knowledge with others, I worked as a student learning assistant (SLA) at Middlesex University – London. In the same capacity, I worked as a private GCSE Math’s tutor at Luton, where I was tasked with assisting with devolving study straggles and setting Homework’s. Moreover, being an individual who likes to Volunteer, I volunteered at Friends of Bright Eyes (FOBE) – Luton, which equipped me with excellent communication skills.

From my traits, I am a hardworking enthusiastic and positive person who strives to be the best. Besides, I possess excellent communication skills as well as perfect teamwork skills, which I believe makes me the most qualified candidate for this career. Also, I have excellent command in information technology, including programming and good Mathematician skills. However, I understand that MRes in Medical Robotics and Image-Guided Intervention is demanding. However, I am committed to striving to achieve my best since I have chosen the institution that will assist me in being the best. I am therefore optimistic that I will be prepared well for the modern job market.
