Pursuing a Career in Policing

POLICE PERSONAL STATEMENT

Since I can remember, I have always been interested in a profession in the public service, which will allow me to fulfill my desire towards making a positive impact to the society, with my interests. Whenever I watch police roaming in the street, my fasciation increases and I believe that I always need to be like them to help people and as well, secure my country. Moreover, I am strongly attracted by today's criminal trends, drugs availability as well as the effects they have on society. Therefore, guided by my interests, goals, and career objectives, I am writing this personal statement to apply for BA (Hons) Policing at the University of East London.

Policing is a profession that facilitates the maintenance of law and order. My motivation in this course comes from my strong insight of justice as well as the firm belief that I have for all citizens’ freedoms and rights. Additionally, as an extensive reader, “Rise of the Warrior Cop: The Militarization of America's Police Forces” a Radley Balko’s book has greatly motivated me to join this career. As regards my educational background, I studied law at the University of mention university. During my studies, I pursued a lot of units covering human rights, policing as well as international law, which I believe makes me the right candidate for this course. Additionally, I have also applied to work with metropolitan police and have already passed the first stage. I believe that this position will increase my knowledge in policing, therefore, making my studies practical and easier.

Looking at my personality, I am a self-motivated individual, enthusiastic and hardworking. I have mastered the art of working as a team as well as independent from my previous studies. From my high school education, I learned mathematics which shaped my analytical skills, which I believe will be most important in this field of study. Additionally, I learned English, which advanced my communication skills and today, I am a powerful negotiator, which I believe will influence my ability to handle suspects, the public as well as youth in my country. Nevertheless, I have strong leadership skills which I believe are crucial elements for creating a positive influence in society. It is my knowledge that policing requires physical fitness, and therefore, I have worked hard to improve my physical fitness via my zeal in sport, gym visiting, and athletics. Lastly, discipline is always the key to better policing, therefore since childhood, I have developed good discipline and respect while dealing with other people.

During my search for a better institution to study, I was attracted by your institution’s reputation and the fact that your institution provides degree qualifications which are highly regarded globally. Therefore, offered a chance, I will work hard to broaden my legal knowledge, policing in general as well as human rights. Besides, I know that this course is a challenging field, but worth-attending. I am, therefore, looking forward to different professional and academic challenges during my study at the University of East London. This challenging environment will help me acquire and develop relevant skills to tackle some of the challenging situations in my country. With the increasing crimes in cities, it is my interest to make to work at my best to make the world a better and safer place to live. Nevertheless, private security cannot be ignored in any state, and thus with the best training from your institution, it is my goal to establish my own security company to help the national security in making cities safe.
