Pursuing a Degree in Veterinary Science

PERSONAL STATEMENT

For as long as I can remember I have been interested in a fulfilling and rewarding career in animal care. I am interested in this profession due to my desire to assist animals as well as my interest to find problems facing animal care and ways to fix them. Therefore, following my ambitions, I am applying for a bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Science at your institution.

Convinced of my desire to study veterinary sciences, I concentrated in Mathematics, English and Double Science which I excelled in achieving grade “B” and above in all subjects during my GCSE studies. These studies built my character and my ability to speak confidently in public. Besides, mathematics sharpened my analytical skills while English advanced my communication skills. Moreover, I am currently studying access to 'Medicine' course at Manchester college where I am undertaking subjects like Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, etc. which I believe makes me advantaged to study Veterinary Science. From my Employment History, I have been working as a Support Worker at The Priory Group where I am tasked with undertaking safe supervision of those in care, processing individuals in reception and those being discharged, supporting patients with their daily routine and encouraging independence among other roles. I also worked as a Prison Officer at Her Majesty’s Prison Service, where I learned to follow strict policies and procedures, use my initiative as well as teamwork skills. One of my greatest achievements in this position is the organization of staff wellbeing which involved organizing lunchtime activities. From this position, I have learned time management, people skills, public speaking skills, and being punctual and prompt. Lastly, I worked as a Support Worker at Homes Caring for Autism which taught me the ability to comply with any deadlines. Currently, I am working once a week at Vets4pets to gaining work experience in animal care. From this job, I am learning day to day running of animal care, taking care of animals, learning to use various tools as well as complying with policies and procedures in animal care.

Looking at my personality, I am a positive individual who always strives to achieve the best. I have a strong command in information technology which I believe, would be crucial to this field of study. Nevertheless, I strongly consider myself a flexible individual with core skills that are required to thrive in today’s veterinary environment. Furthermore, I Volunteered at equine yard where I helped in handling horses, general yard duties, exercising horses and checking on their daily health and wellbeing, etc. From this experience, I learned to be humble and empathetic to animals.

Having grown up surrounded by animals, during my leisure time, I ride Horse. Therefore, since I enjoy learning in both classroom and practical settings I believe that pursuing veterinary science at your institution will give me an opportunity to progress my knowledge and as well propel my ambition of changing how we handle animals as well as their wellbeing.
