Pursuing a Master's Degree in International Public Policy

Personal Statement

Since childhood, I have been deeply interested in the influences of the social environment that we live in, as well as how actions of individuals can affect society. In the twenty-first century, there are many global challenges such as climate change, terrorism, and migratory pressures among others, which have created a profound influence on society and humanity. Still, economic and social development has rapidly taken place in every part of the world and it is radically transforming people's living conditions as well as their way of thinking. Therefore, to systematically understand how political institutions and public policies operate in international affairs, I am fascinated to apply for a master's degree in international public policy at your institution.

Masters in International Public Policy is a course that provides learners with a hands-on approach to policy formulation, implementation, and evaluation at the international level. It also creates knowledge of political processes and political institutions and their influence in the world. I enjoy current affairs and am keen to understand the social policy. For instance, the recent Syrian refugee crisis amazed me as regards to how Britain turned the refugee crisis into an insular argument on the need to keep the state free of a "swarm" of migrants. My motivation in this course comes from the study of various books and magazines such as a book by Deborah - "Policy Paradox: The Art of Political Decision Making" which has helped me understand the major methods of policy reform such as rules, persuasion incentives, legal rights, and reorganization of authority.

From my previous studies, I pursued Bachelor of Law in Afghanistan where I studied criminal law, principles of good governance, advocacy and commercial law among other subjects, which I believe makes me qualified for this course. Additionally, I studied, at the bachelor’s degree level, International Law in the Netherlands, which promoted my understanding of international law. Later on I took a bachelor of international relations and politics from London Metropolitan University where I scored 2:2 (58.78%). This course helped me understand international politics and relations as well as policy formulations. Therefore, I believe that this makes me the most qualified candidate for this course. Throughout my studies, I have developed management skills and people skills. I have also learned analytical skills, which are essential in the study of this course and its future applications. Moreover, I am fluent in Arabic and English, which are suitable for diplomacy roles.

Master's in International Public Policy at your institution is known for its unique approach in nurturing young diplomats and learners. The institution equips learners with empirical evidence and theoretical tools necessary for the understanding of policy-making process within political science and international relations' general theories. Additionally, it enhances multidisciplinary exploration, which is crucial in a graduate study. Nevertheless, Royal Holloway University has the best teaching staff who would provide the best practical lessons which will equip me with public policy skills and their application in certain areas of world affairs.

This course is a challenging field of study but worth-attending. I am, therefore, looking forward to different professional and academic challenges during the study of this course. This challenging environment will help me acquire and develop relevant skills for the job market. Offered a chance, it is my dream and passion to change the global policy-making process and as well contribute positively to the policy-making process in the world to address contemporary transnational phenomena. Lastly, it will be my pleasure to contribute positively to your institution's football club.
