Writing This Letter in The Hope That You Would Consider

I am writing this letter in the hope that you would consider the issues made here with the seriousness that they deserve and address these issues promptly. The issues relate to the alley that runs behind the property that you are leasing and which you have been using to dispose of rubbish and household items. Your actions are causing nuisance to the other owners of the properties adjacent to the alley and also amount to environmental abuse. This letter comes in the wake of several unsuccessful and unfruitful attempts to speak with you regarding these issues. I am distressed that I have to write this letter to you when these issues could have been resolved had you taken certain reasonable actions as a neighbour. As you may be aware, I own the freehold of the land and alley behind the row of properties, of one of which you have a lease. We have always striven to keep the alley clean and free of rubbish and clutter because this alley provides access to our land. So far, we have arranged for removal of rubbish from the alley in order to keep it clean and to ensure unhindered access to our properties through the alley. We have had no problems in this regard in the past as all of us have contributed to the maintenance of the cleanliness of the alley.

I am very disappointed to note that you have been disposing your rubbish in the alley and have also gone so far as to store your belongings in the alley. At different times, you have stored items from your household including old fridges in this alley. Due to these actions on your part, we have all have had to suffer inconveniences with the alley being blocked for access apart from it being dirty and filthy due to the rubbish and items kept here by you. A recent and frustrating example of this has been my inability for the last three weeks to take my car in or out through the alley. I am also distressed that despite my speaking to you several times in person to explain why you cannot continue to block the alley with rubbish and household items, you have not taken any steps to mend the state of affairs. I can only reiterate that taking such steps would have been the reasonable thing to do under the circumstances and you have unfortunately failed to do so.

I would like to point out that you do not have any legal right to dispose of rubbish or store household belongings in the alley. As a leaseholder, you do not have the legal right to use the alley. Furthermore, your actions constitute nuisance because you are interfering with my right to enjoy and use my property. Furthermore, your actions of disposing of your rubbish in the alley also constitute environment abuse. In this regard, allow me to point out that you are the only inhabitant of this neighbourhood who is indulging in these actions.

In this neighbourhood, we have always made sincere efforts to maintain harmonious relationships. With regard to the alley, we have been arranging for the removals of rubbish in to keep it clean. Your actions in disposing rubbish in the alley and using the alley for storing personal household items are not in keeping with the ethos of good neighbourly and civic behaviour. Due to your failure to take the reasonable steps of not disposing of the rubbish in the alley and not removing personal household items from the alley, I am afraid I have no alternative but to arrange for the removal of these items. If you fail to remove these items in three days after receiving this letter, I will arrange for the removal and pass the cost of removal to you. I believe three days is a reasonable amount of time required for you to arrange for the removal of the items from the alley and I do hope that you will take this opportunity to act reasonably and not force my hand to take stringent steps in this regard. Reasonable actions on your part at this time will go a long way in fostering a harmonious relationship with your neighbours.
